So if you’re pulling out the bins too, here’s your gentle reminder: you don’t need to buy all new things or make it look like anyone else’s. Start with what you love, and let the rest unfold.

As I thought about how many faces have come through our doors this month, I was reminded that these are the moments I dreamed of when we designed this house! I imagined our space being used for connection, laughter, and creativity. It’s why we were so intentional with how we built (and styled) it. Not to make it perfect, but to make it open.

Slow decorating isn’t about waiting forever — it’s about waiting for the right things. It’s about honoring your space, your story, and your style. It’s about creating rooms that feel lived in, loved, and layered with meaning.

This cabinet doesn’t “match” the rest of the room.

And that’s exactly why I love it.

In our kitchen, there are two arched openings that lead into the pantry, one on each side. From the beginning, I dreamed of having matching cabinets tucked inside those arches—something special, something with character. Of course, finding two antique cabinets that matched perfectly? Nearly impossible. So I figured we’d design them.

I used to believe that breathing new life into a space meant a complete overhaul. I’m talking big, expensive changes. Over time, I’ve learned that there are quick, easy ways to spruce up our surroundings…and it most certainly doesn’t have to break the bank!

But then…

You open Pinterest - and it’s option OVERLOAD. You get a text from 3 different friends - and there are a LOT of opinions. You remember an idea you had for a bold piece of artwork - but think it’s probably “too much”

Our conversation (and the ideas I came up with to inspire her) got me thinking about how often others may enter into a season of needing to decorate walls in a temporary or budget-friendly way.
